Scotland's Leading Lift Company
to Triple in Size
The new Managing Director of Scotland’s largest independent lift and escalator business, Consult Lift Services, is planning to triple turnover during the next three years by rolling out an expansion strategy that will take the business into the North East of Scotland and the South of England.
Founded in 1998 by Philip Reilly, Consult Lifts has a turnover of circa £2m and employs 25 staff. New Managing Director Colin Edgar, who joins from property consultancy CBRE, where he was a Director, is looking to grow turnover to over £6m and increase staffing to around 50. Philip Reilly will become Chairman, and will provide consultancy services to clients as the business grows.
Edgar, who is a specialist in mechanical and electrical building services, believes that Consult can expand across the UK by offering a fully-integrated lift design, supply and management service.
Current clients include St Andrews University, Lotus Cars and The Golden Jubilee Hospital. Consult Lifts is currently building a lift showroom at its HQ near Glasgow Airport, which will be the only one of its kind in Scotland and will allow prospective clients to view the full range of lift systems being marketed by Consult. The Showroom will complement the company’s own test and training lift tower, which is used for training, testing, safety and rescue demonstrations.
The market for the design, supply and maintenance of lifts is estimated to be worth £50m in Scotland, and nearly £1 billion in the UK. Demand is driven by growing for high quality bespoke systems that require less maintenance and are more energy efficient, and by legislation that requires lifts to offer full disability access.
One of Edgar’s first tasks is to commission a rebranding and marketing campaign across all aspects of the business, from the website to staff uniforms.
Commenting on the appointment, Colin Edgar said: “I am delighted to be joining Consult Lifts. The business has grown steadily under Philip, and there is an exciting opportunity to take the company to the next stage of growth, particularly by expanding across the UK and offering a full national service.”
Philip Reilly added: “Consult Lifts is already Scotland’s leading independent lift company but our ambition is take the business into the top of the league in the UK. We needed to bring in external talent with the skills and management expertise to drive the business forward. We are delighted that Colin has agreed to join the company and look forward to working with him on the next stage of our development”.
